"Working for Christ" (1 Corinthians 1:10-18, Matthew 4:12-23)

Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday service

Someone has said there is a huge difference between having a job at church and having a ministry at church. For example, “If you are doing it because no one else will, it's a job. If you are doing it to serve the Lord, it's a ministry.” What is a Ministry? Ministry is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning "to serve." In the New Testament, ministry is seen as service to God and to other people in His name. Jesus provided the pattern for Christian ministry—He came, not to receive service, but to give it (see Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45; John 13:1-17). In Christianity, ministry is an activity carried out by Christians to express or spread their faith, the prototype being the Great Commission.
