"Only What Is Done for Christ Will Last" (2 Kings 2:1-2, 2 Kings 2:6-14, Galatians 5:1, Galatians 5:13-25, Luke 9:51-62)

Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday service

I have been thinking a lot about two of Jesus' agricultural metaphors regarding ministry over the past few years. First, “No one who puts a hand to the plough and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Second, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." This one has been harder. How do I put my hand to the plow but live with the easy yoke? You see: “Jesus doesn't want fans; Jesus wants followers! Jesus wants people who will do more than simply sit in a pew and clap and cheer. Jesus wants people who will take up a cross daily, the cross of service and love. You see, only the Lord can give us what we need to do ministry! The Lord calls us individually; the Lord equips us, the Lord uses us, and the Lord sustains us!
