"Run with Perseverance" (Hebrews 11:29-12:2, Luke 12:49-56)

Rev. Dr. Marjorie E. NunesRev. Dr. Marjorie E. Nunes, August 14, 2016
Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday service

The focus of this sermon is on Faith and Perseverance. Perseverance is said to be, “ the steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.” And there is “Faith:” John Lennox, a professor of mathematics at Oxford University, argues that everyone has "faith" in something—even atheists. Lennox notes that the word faith isn't just a religious word. It comes from the Latin word fides, which means "trust" or "reliance. The writer of this Hebrews text is reminding us of the history of Christian resilience against all odds—to “Run with Perseverance.”
