"A Radical Seating Arrangement" (Hebrews 13:1-8, Hebrews 13:15-16, Luke 14:1, Luke 14:7-14)

Rev. Dr. Marjorie E. NunesRev. Dr. Marjorie E. Nunes, August 28, 2016
Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday service

My sermon titled today is: "A Radical Seating Arrangement" Jesus goes from "A Revolution on the Sabbath" from last week's Gospel lesson to: "A Radical Seating Arrangement"

Radical -Very new and different from what is traditional or ordinary: what is the norm?

We would like to think that giving great honor to those who are distinguished or ignoring those who are ordinary are social issues of the first-century world of the New Testament and not problems in our own church settings, especially churches rooted in Western, democratic society.

Yet social distinctions do matter far too often in our Christian Communities, as those who experience less privilege would easily attest.
What was quite explicit in the ancient world may express itself in more implicit fashion in our contexts.
