"Lip Service Or A Blessing?" (Philippians 2:5-11, Mark 11:1-11, Mark 14:1-11)

Rev. Dr. Marjorie E. NunesRev. Dr. Marjorie E. Nunes, March 25, 2018
Part of the Lent series, preached at a Palm Sunday service

They gave Jesus a parade in Jerusalem a city filled with bystanders. There were not many who were willing to participate in Jerusalem. That parade they gave Jesus was an insult. In fact many of them they gave him “Lip Service.” “Lip Service:” Insincere agreement. To “pay lip service” is to consent in one's words while dissenting in one's heart: To say that you agree with something but do nothing to support it. Many in the crowd on the first Palm Sunday was only giving Jesus “Lip Service.”
