“A Lifelong Treasure Hunt" (Hebrews 11:1-1:3, Hebrews 11:8-16, Luke 12:32-40)

There’s a lot happening in this passage, but I think Jesus’ focus on wealth and generosity (Luke 12:33-34) deserves additional attention, especially since this is such an important topic in Luke, most notably throughout chapters 12-19. In Bible times, wealth was stored and measured by how much literal commodities a person owned: garments, grain, and gold or precious metal—all of which could be lost. Jesus warned against a preoccupation with anything that can be destroyed. We must not treasure anything that would not last.
