"Desperately Seeking Joy!" (Isaiah 12:2-6, Luke 3:7-18)

Rev. Dr. Marjorie E. NunesRev. Dr. Marjorie E. Nunes, December 16, 2018
Part of the Advent series, preached at a Advent service

What is the difference between joy and happiness: Joy and happiness are wonderful feelings to experience, but are very different. Joy is more consistent and is cultivated internally. It comes when you make peace with who you are, why you are and how you are, whereas happiness tends to be externally triggered and is based on other people, things, places, thoughts and events. Happiness is an emotion in which we "experience feelings ranging from contentment and satisfaction to bliss and intense pleasure. Whereas joy is a stronger, less common feeling than happiness. We experience joy when we achieve selflessness to the point of personal sacrifice. We feel joy when we are spiritually connected to God or people.
