"Mission Ready!" (Ephesians 1:3-14, Mark 6:14-29)

Rev. Dr. Marjorie E. NunesRev. Dr. Marjorie E. Nunes, July 15, 2018
Part of the Sunday series, preached at a Sunday service

This Gospel is about mission. St. Mark has a way of zeroing in on the basics. He's very brief and to the point. Let's get the picture. Jesus sets up a "pilot test" project. He wants to test how well his brand new on-the-job trainees can take instructions and make them work. In this Gospel we see him giving them a lesson on some very basic matters. Jesus called the Twelve to him, and sent them out in pairs. He gave them authority and power to deal with the evil opposition. He sent them off with these instructions: In the simplest terms, the basics are: a) avoid excesses, b) use time wisely, c) respond, don't react, to each new challenge.
