After the storm passed and power was restored to HUMC, we opened our doors to provide shelter for emergency relief workers. Between November 2012 and July 2014, Hicksville United Methodist Church has housed over 500 volunteer workers from many states (NJ, VA, MI, IA, RI, CA to name a few), many faiths (Jewish, Lutheran, Pentecostal), and many different age groups (from high school to senior citizens). We have worked closely with the NY Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, as well as with Long Island Volunteer Center to provide hospitality and hot showers to those helping others.
"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
Our Prayer Team meets every Friday morning from 7:00 am - 9:00 am. You are invited to come and pray; feel free to leave at anytime.
Music has been an important part of our ministries for many years. We have a heritage of strong, talented, long-tenured Ministers of Music. Rosemary Chung was named our Minister of Music beginning March 1, 2008 and served as our organist for the three months before that. She has a master's degree from Westminster Choir College, and she has won awards as a children's choir conductor. A Diaconal Minister in The United Methodist Church, Rosemary has a professional theological education, a deep and vital faith, and a total commitment to Jesus Christ. She truly is a minister of music!
Our music ministries currently include the following groups:
• Senior Choir (sings every Sunday at 10:00 AM).
• Praise and Worship team led by Susan Greenfield (every Sunday at 9:45 AM).
• Solo and small ensemble singers and instrumentalists (every Sunday at 8:00 and 10:00
AM).
• Jubilate Bell Choir led by Evelyn Biamonte (rings during the year on Sunday mornings, and at annual bell choir festivals across Long Island).
